Stem Cell Research.

guys i never did say "only do embryoic stem cell research." but, if the odds are pointing to embroyic research, then wouldn't you think we should try that a little more? like.. in a race, would you rather have a lamborghini, or a model T from early 1900's.

and brooke, i also have had awful luck with cancer, so please don't think i am being insencitive.

You just contradicted yourself eric.....just saying, because you gut offended by Sarah's comment which I don't understand why...

we never said anything like that eric. you were just saying about how cancer should be cured with it, and i said that even more diseases besides cancer could be cured by it also.

when we get down to it, this is ethics. no right or wrong answer.

and yes, sarah. diabetes is also an issue. my family has bad luck with that one too. not so much spinal cord issues, but that still is a huge issue.

exactly. stem cells can cure sooo many many things. we just need to take the oppurtunity and use it. so many people's lives could be changed by this.

and here is my issue. they DON'T have the technology to cure it at the moment. my good friend just died from luekemia. she has had chemo 3 times. radiation once. this isn't fair, you see. cancer is an awful thing. and with this, i will back out of the debate, as i see my opinion is wrong.

We don't have technology because no one is willing to fund it, and this isnt about just cancer this is about everything it could cure

ERIC, chemo, is NOT from the stem cell research. and we DO have the technology because people HAVE been cured. it just costs a lot of money. and there are many other diseases besides for cancer that kill people, eric. there are many other awful diseases, not just cancer. quit limiting this research to only cancer.

From what limited knowledge I have of this, stem cells can only cure ORGANS, not diseases. They can be used to repair damaged muscles, as in people with Multiple Sclerosis, or Muscular Dystrophy, it can help the brain re map itself, as in people with Alzheimer Disease, it can rebuild organs that are failing, like the liver, kidneys, pancreas. It can repair the nervous system, so that people MIGHT be able to walk again, but it cannot cure abnormal cells, that cancers comes from.

It took me nearly an hour to read up on all this stuff, and now my head hurts, so please make the next topic a lighter one!

Actually cancer can be cured by stem cell research it just costs shit loads and is some what rather risky.

In the medical world today its mostly used for operations to repair the nervous system and other organs, things like that

Stem cells can cure disabilities and diseases. I learned in biology that the stem cells could be sort of "tricked" like it was a different cell, so it takes on that role of whatever cell it was tricked into being, which therefore, can cure diseases too.

It is also in the experimental stage of being able to cure some types of cancers and it has cured some sort of cancers and other diseases and what not. It costs a horrible ammount of money and therefore cannot be used often, although it is used for some stuff like repairing the nervous system but to cure cancer it does cost a lot

It cost a lot or any type of cure, and doesn't cure cancer yet. I we want to be able to cure any type o disease we should be prepared to pay or it. We should be able yo sacrifice some of our money to save lives, because that's the only way this is going to get done

No, because the embryonic ones are yes, more prone to differentiation, but they are also more prone to dying before they can do any good

Half of the people who are against using stem cells say they are against using embryonic stem cells and want to only use Adult stem cells

for one thing embryonic stem cells haven't done anything for society yet and based on the way the work they cant function after the child is mangled and ripped apart only ADULT stem cells have been PROVEN to work lol my bits but if it comes from a adult im fine with it , it can really benefit society
