Reputation -> Thanks?

Back when I ran a teen forum, instead of reputation we had a system of "thanks" for posts. There was a modification available for vBulletin which did this, and I am sure there is one for phpBB3. Users had an option to press a button to thank an individual post that was helpful for them, and the total number of posts that other users had thanked would appear next to their posts and in their profile.

It was really useful as it actually showed useful posts instead of showing who was the most popular on the site and everyone could see who gave what - along with it being an entirely positive system, there were no arguments and it worked much better. My advice is not to leave rep so long that you can't get rid of it in the future cause it gets abused.

It was the "merci" button on here, but it was dropped in favor of the "Rep" system

It works better than reputation. I would use thanks while the site is still young.

I personally think that it is fine, but maybe have reputation, AND a separate thanks button.

I think having 2 likes would be over doing it

well, unfortunately, the members did say that they like rep, and although it was close, they still spoke. I kept the thanks there for a reason. Can't please everyone, eh?

No, indeed. But it is your website, Eric: and your responsibility to make the best and most effective decision. It was just an idea for improvement anyway

alright. i will really take this into consideration, but not right away, because unfortunately, some really bad things are going on at the moment on here that need to be solved immediately.

I have to agree with Jon on this one, if there is such a dispute over it, wouldn't it just be better to remove it, and replace it with a system where people can't be neg repped?

Well, I had people vote.

And it worked well did it not, you had people arguing and saying stuff.

The vote said to keep the reputation system.
