It IS a disease, just like taking drugs, or smoking. Once your hooked, you cannot stop. Your body constantly craves it, then you need more and more to get that "high".

Addiction to me is like the pre stage before a disease in a sense.

If you think about it, you become a drug addict therefore you are "Closer" to catching such a thing is cancer, whitch is a disease, even though not everyone becomes infected with cancer it is still a disease.

Hey you could have an addiction to drugs and alchol, and never become infected with cancer.

I think alchol and smoking ect, are all addictions that can (but not always) lead to a disease.

eric is right. i didn't develop cancer until after my back surgery. many cancers are formed in the bone and in the blood. neither of which are a "growth".

I agree with that, because yes cancer can commonly be caused by growths but my cousin's cancers spread through her body in her blood. Also I don't get what cancer has to do with this debate truthfully.

And I also agree that alcohol is considered a disease, because it is in all states and that's how they treat people with alcoholism.

I think that comment was very innapropriate, and Cam this is a disease it's more like cancer you can go to school, but you have to go get treatment.

My dad was a acoholic , since 15 and i have felt pressure to drink , i dont think that its a desiase as much as a impulsive genes coupled with a risk taking gene , and a highly addictive personality , can make a perfect storm for him when he was hit by the train it came down upon him full force , its not a excuse nor is it a valid reason , to act the way he is; lose his kids knock up 3 differnt girls , an abandon me is reason enough for me to draw this conclusion
