Killing in self Defense
Who thinks killing in self defense is acceptable or not acceptable?
My Answer
To be fair I think it is okay, if someone comes into my house and attemps to attack me, I will defend myself and if they die in the process so be it..
Okay that sounds harsh but we have the right to defend ourselves and of course no one wants to kill anyone but we must accept if its your life or the one who is intruding on your property, we will all defend ourselves.
p.s I dont mean to sound harsh

Re: Killing in self Defense
only acceptable if someone comes inside my house and attacks me (i.e. armed)
I don't know if I'll be able to bring myself to kill the intruder, but if I do, I shouldn't be punished. :S

Re: Killing in self Defense
none of us would want to kill the person but if it happens we know we did not do it on purpose

Re: Killing in self Defense
I hate debating, but here goes nothing....
Killing another person in self defense is acceptable only if you have a just cause to say it was self defense. You could be in a dark alley killing somebody right there, but if you claim self defense, you'd need proof. No witnesses, no just cause. In that case I would subject a polygraph test. I would actually ask for a law stating that if there is enough reason to subject people to lie detector tests and the sort, then the authorities/cops would have the right to do so.

I think as long as it's in self defense to save your life and possibly others you should be able to protect yourself even if that means death for that other person attacking you.

Re: Killing in self Defense
The second ammendment on the bill of rights says that you have the right to bear arms. If there is an intruder on your property you have the right to take action. It's also known as a common law that's assumed. The problem is...can you prove that it was self defense?

Re: Killing in self Defense
I think good proof would be damaged property, and broken in door. Or obvious abuse done to the person who shot in defense. Truthfully there are a wide range of ways to prove that it was in defense.

Re: Killing in self Defense
The Bill of Rights is only applied in America, when someone says, defends his house and shoots a burglar in the UK, you are charged with manslaughter.
I personally, do not think I could bring myself to kill someone else, even though I say there is one person I WILL kill if I ever meet him again, I do not think I could actually do it.

I think I couldn't either because...well....I can barely stand listening to those commercials about the dying animals, so I guess my life would have to really been in danger.

Re: Killing in self Defense
I completely agree, because I want to be able to fight for a life that I deserve, and I don't want some stranger stealing it from me.

Re: Killing in self Defense
I would try not to kill then i would probably decapacitate them, i.e. knife to the foot, stun gun, etc.

I don't think there is a need to cut of their head, I just think we should have the right to kill in self defense.

Brooke, this is a common mistake, I said DECAPACITATE which means, unless im mistaken, to disable, you thought I said DECAPITATE which means to cut off their head.

Decapacitate:
Verb
decapacitate (third-person singular simple present decapacitates, present participle decapacitating, simple past and past participle decapacitated)
Verb
decapacitate (third-person singular simple present decapacitates, present participle decapacitating, simple past and past participle decapacitated)
- To reduce something's or someone's capability to do something
Calcium bursts would increase spermatozoa motility, where cholesterol would decapacitate spermatozoa, so preventing untimely activation.
