It's been a few years
since I last gave you a hug.
Since I saw you in that office,
then in the grave I dug.
For two weeks we stayed away,
for the reasons of what shouldn't besaid.
When we came back we had to realize
that eventually, and soon you would be dead.
Now I know people say
“It's just a pet. You'll get over it.”
Yet almost 18 months later,
when I think of you, my heart throws a fit.
Eleven years ago you were born,
we went to the dog owner and bought your sister.
She was a lovely dog, but she didn't last long
I don't even remember when I kissed her.
